FenceAid, the volunteer fencing program on bushfire-affected properties in the Whittlesea, Humevale, Kinglake West, Strathewen and St Andrews area is calling for volunteers to finish up as much fencing as possible before program funding winds up in the next few weeks.
Anyone with a reasonable level of fitness that has a day, a week or a weekend to spare is invited to sign up to help replace boundary fences which were damaged or destroyed in the bushfires.
Property owners provide the fencing material, with Fence Aid coordinators supplying equipment and overseeing volunteer labour to re-instate fences.
Funding is currently due to wind up in December with a number of properties in the Whittlesea and Nillumbik shires still to do and new registrations being received daily.
Volunteers receive training and safety gear, are covered by insurance, fully supervised at all times and basic accommodation is available if needed.
